Symbolic Camera
I choose to make my symbolic camera from developed, spoiled, unused and expired film and then sew it up using a rope. The aim of this creation was to be able to build an object that is delicate but also rough and unpleasing to look at. The reason as to why I built my camera in this way was because as a survivor of rape you feel as if everyone is able to see your entire body, as if it was under a microscope, walking around assuming that everyone can see the damage on your body. The rope used to piece the camera together is a representation of the way in which survivors rebuild their sense of self. It made sense for me to build this camera out of its most fragile and vulnerable component, much like a survivor rebuilds their identity with this experience influencing their actions.
